Discussion

System wide release due to COVID-19

Pain points

  • What issues were applicants reporting?
    • very few
  • What issues were reviewers reporting?
    • nothing
  • What issues were coordinators reporting?
    • new and they don't use it all the time
    • they're juggling hard copies and electronic
  • What issues were administrators reporting?
    • none
  • What are we doing manually that could be automated?
    • letters being sent out
  • What features must be implemented before we release system wide?
    • DPC redux
    • negative review process
    • appeals process
      • hearings officers, PRP, referees
  • TrainingsĀ
    • will be done through zoom
  • What are the show stoppers?
    • none
  • Additional information at DPC, DC, Dean must still go through the coordinators so that they can screen the requests from reviewers
    • keep process as is right now

Manoa has 7 out of 15 schools

  • start their trainings in August/September

CCs

  • start their trainings in June

We limited participants the first few cycles because we wanted "good" applicants who were highly likely to be recommended for tenure/promotion. This gave us time to iron out the specs for the appeals process.

Working group in moving courses online, which pulled TnP into the conversation

  • Dela and Erica represent CCs
  • Laura Lyons, interim VCAA, represents Manoa
  • institutions are considering allowing faculty to delay or postpone tenure applications for a year come Fall 2020
    • no punishment; simply just stopping the clock versus an extension
    • things like external letters come into play because Manoa requires it but CCs doesn't

Action Items

  • Ā Cameron Ahana James Kardash needs access as UHPA rep; Christian from UHPA needs access so find out how to get access
