Grouper Data

Concepts

  • Folder - folders contain folders or groups.
    • The colon character is used as the folder delimiter, e.g. hawaii.edu:store:empty
    • Note: Internet2 technical documentation uses the term Stem instead of Folder. The Grouper UI does use the term Folder.
  • Group - groups contain individuals or references to other groups.

Main Folders

Here is how the UH Grouper service is organized:

  • etc: (system use)
  • hawaii.edu: (groups for all of UH go here)
    • store: (this is the UH Group Store, where you got most of your data from; it has groups automatically populated from official UH data, augmented with useful combinations)
      • hris:, rcuh:, sece:, uhims:, sis:
      • any-dataOrigin: (across or regardless of data source)
      • empty (a group with no members that anyone can read, useful as an empty grouping basis)
    • custom: (for groups created by users or apps, loosely organized by <org> code)
      • hawcc:, hcc:, kauaicc:, kcc:, lcc:, mauicc:, uhh:, uhm:, uhsystem:, uhwo:, wcc:
        • Where possible, folders will be named such that they reflect the organization that owns the application or the system making use of the group. The department listings provided at the bottom of http://www.hawaii.edu/dir provide the loose guidelines.
      • test: (useful for testing groupings because they are required to be under the custom stem)
    • prime: (for internal use, they are the building blocks for our group store, you do not need to look in here, everything is available from the store above)
  • uh-settings: (attributes and other settings that could be of use to everyone)
