% = Wildcard.

Wildcard is a great tool to use to find similar codes and descriptions. The field search is case sensitive. Remember that abbreviations have been used to meet character limits. In which case, search by using the first few common letter of the abbreviation. Use wild cards in between words. Example: %Auto%Tech%

Department Codes

How can I determine the department code?

One way to determine a banner department code is by checking similar programs on the campus that falls within the same department.

  1. Go to Banner form SOACURR.
  2. Under college, type in the 2-character college code.
  3. Press F8.
  4. Select a similar code, by clicking on the field cell.
  5. Click on the "majors and departments" tab.
  6. Under the department column, a department code is shown.

Major Codes

How do I check if a major/concentration code is available to use?

  1. Go to Banner form STVMAJR
  2. Press F7
  3. Type the code in the major code field.
  4. Press F8

If a description appears, then the code is assigned to another code.

How can I find similar major/concentration codes?

  1. Go to Banner form STVMAJR
  2. Press F7
  3. Type a description using the wildcard tip.
  4. Press F8

Descriptions meeting the criterias will appear.  Another recommendation would be to search by CIP code - search by full code or first two characters with a wildcard (ie. 13%).  Banner CIP codes do not use the decimal.
