2015 email to contestants
Contestants,
We hope you are having a wonderful weekend. Rest up because our double-elimination tournament (for Brackets A and C) and single-elimination tournament with consolation tournament (for Bracket B) begins on Monday!
The 3 championship matches will be held during the August 20 party.
The committee deliberated over the brackets for almost 2 and a half hours, with the goal being to create fairly competitive brackets while providing at least 2 matches per player for this final stage. We feel we have succeeded and expect to see entertaining matches in the next 2 weeks.
Most of the players will be in the "B" division. Following the normal probability distribution curve, there are a few very strong players on one end of the curve, a few players who are fairly new to the game or do not have the pleasure of playing very often (or have not invested a week's pay on equipment :) ) on the other end of the curve, and the majority of players somewhere in between. Thus our A bracket has 7 players, our B bracket has 15 players, and our C bracket has 8 players.
We wanted to hold a double-elimination tournament for all 3 brackets, however with 15 players in the B bracket, a double-elimination tournament would have added almost 10 more matches. Therefore, we tweaked the B bracket to include a consolation tournament, thus guaranteeing everyone at least 2 matches.
Because the elimination matches are dependent upon results of the "winner's" matches, please schedule your matches as soon as possible so you do not hold up another match. Committee members are available to help facilitate this.
Mission:
Milestones:
- Elimination Tournament begins on Monday, August 10, 2015.
- Tournament concludes with championship matches played during "end-of-summer celebration" party on Thursday, August 20, 2015 (time: 3:30pm).
Deliverables:
- At least 5 matches per player.
- We were able to guarantee at least 6 matches per player!
- At least 2 brackets with champions in each.
- There will be 3 brackets with champions in each.
- One heck of an end-of-summer celebration (our party organizers have a history of throwing festive events)!
- You'll have to show up to find out!
Procedures and Communication Plan:
- Please read:Â 2015 ITS Table Tennis Tournament - Procedures.
- Upon completion of a match, select one contestant to update the Google Sheet:Â 2015 ITS Table Tennis Tournament - Singles.
- A Google Calendar named "ITC Table Tennis" has been created and should be used to schedule your matches (details in the "Procedures" document).
- A Google Group named "itc-table-tennis-grp" (see "To" field in this email) has been created to facilitate communication among the participants.
- All participants have been added to the itc-table-tennis Google Group. Â You will use the ITC Table Tennis calendar to 'reserve' the table and schedule your matches. Â A 30-minute reservation per match should be more than enough time to warm up and play your match.
Risks and Mitigation Steps:
- Please be aware of any meeting being held in ITC 410. Sounds from the ping pong table area carries into ITC 410.
- Prior to starting your match, survey the playing area and be aware of potentially dangerous objects. Some items may be temporarily relocated for your match. Others will need to be avoided. The floor box housing outlets has broken in the past and is something else to be aware of.
We hope you get to meet a few people and have a lot of fun playing! Be safe and be respectful of others.
