What is the UH Number?

- It is a unique identifier for each person affiliated with UH.
(slide note: Each person is meant to have one and only one UH Number, regardless of how many ways they may be affiliated with UH.) - It is the recommended persistent identifier for all UH business processes to utilize as needed.
Why did we create it?

- To replace the SSN with a very safe alternative.
Why is UH Number the safe alternative?

- Because it is classified as "restricted" to internal UH use and, importantly, is not classified as "sensitive".
- To use it in a sensitive fashion would be a policy violation.
What is an example use-case for such a policy violation?

- Presenting it as a challenge-question in order to determine if a person is who they say they are violates UH policy.
What's an easy why to keep this in mind?

- If a student were to tattoo their UH Number on their forehead, they should rightly have no concerns (other than aesthetics).
