Overview

Throughout the course of the tournament duration, please play all matches you are scheduled.

Use the ITC Table Tennis Group Calendar, which can be added by calendar ID - hawaii.edu_9j9cf8bic33arhlt4bp5bvgad0@group.calendar.google.com.

Because we do not have exclusive use of the table it is highly suggested to check the Table Tennis Cam - http://www.hawaii.edu/its/tt/cam.htm before going to play. Note: the TT cam is accessible only on the ITC wired connection (128.171.172.0/23). Login credentials are: tt/tt

Warm Ups

The duration of how long warm ups last is up to the players.

Matches

Best of 5 games to 11 points - you must win by 2

Keep track of your game won-lost record and post the results in the Google Doc (if one person wins 3-0 or 3-1, you may play the rest of the games for practice but they do not count and should not be part of the won-lost record posted in the google document).

"Off the Environment Shots"

These types of shots are when a ball hits off the ceiling/wall (or any other surface that is not apart of the table) and bounces back into play on the opponents side.

For tournament play, the ball is considered dead when the ball touches the ceiling, wall, or spectator etc.

Legal Serves

  1. Ball must be visible to the receiver(s)
  2. Ball must be tossed from a flat palm (cannot cup the ball or hold it in the fingers)
  3. Ball must be tossed at least 6 inches vertically before being struck
  4. Cannot impart any spin on the toss
  5. Ball must be struck behind the server's end line

Doubles Serving

Prior to the match starting the players will decide (either by jan-ken-po, coin toss, silly ball roll back trick etc.) a winner to select to serve, receive or a table side.

  1. If serve is selected - the loser will choose the side to start on
  2. If receive is selected - the loser will choose the side to start on
  3. If a side is selected - the loser will choose to serve or receive

The service itself is performed the same way as in singles, however the ball must bounce only on the right half portion of the table for both the server and the receiver:

Scheduling Matches

All participants have been added to the itc-table-tennis Google Group already. You will use the calendar to "reserve" a time to play for your matches, so that other participants in the tournament know the table is in use during that time. A 30-min reservation per match should be more than enough time to play your match. To add the ITC Table Tennis Calendar to your Google Calendar please visit Resources and look for "ITC Table Tennis Calendar".

  1. Make sure to communicate with your opponent via email or phone (can be found on the signup sheet) before scheduling an event. We strongly advise against "cold scheduling" - creating an event without first talking with your opponent(s)/teammate.
  2. Create a calendar event on your Google Calendar for ~30mins named "Person/TeamA vs. Person/TeamB"
  3. Invite both your opponent and "ITC Table Tennis Calendar" to the event
  4. The calendar is configured to automatically accept invites if there is no time conflict

Results

Please post results in the appropriate column on the Google Sheet so that we can keep track of wins and losses. There will be no assigned officials to witness matches. We will rely on the honor system. If you have any rules questions, send them to the tournament committee: itc-table-tennis-commit-grp@hawaii.edu.
