Upgrade timeline:

  • Saturday 4/9/2016
    • 10:00p
      • DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES TO GROUPER UNTIL THE UPGRADE IS COMPLETED!
        • This includes changes to UH Groupings, changes via web services API and the Grouper UI.
      • Grouper data will be exported so that it can be transferred to a new server
  • Sunday 4/10/2016
    • 7:00a
      • grouper.hawaii.edu will point to the new server
      • Grouper data will be imported into the new server
    • 10:00a
      • OK TO RESUME ENTERING DATA INTO GROUPER

Important change: Group Store

  • The new top-level folders are now:
    • hawaii.edu : custom (your own groups/groupings go here)
    • hawaii.edu : store (the UH Group Store)
    • hawaii.edu : prime (internal use only)
  • All groups you need to use are now available in the new Group Store (in the hawaii.edu:store folder).  There is no charge for using the groups, but you will need to request access to them.
  • We no longer divide groups into confusing 'auto' vs 'menu' groups. You only need to look in the hawaii.edu:store folder
  • The groups in the group store are built from building-block groups called prime groups (in the hawaii.edu:prime folder). You do not need to look for groups inside this folder, but you will see references to them from the store group.
    • Prime groups are similar to prime numbers in that they cannot be reduced to anything smaller, and they are used to build bigger numbers (or a copy of itself when multiplied by 1).  That's very similar to how these prime groups are used to build the store groups.
  • The hawaii.edu:menu:sis:curricula folder is now hawaii.edu:store:sis:curriculum
  • Any references to the old hawaii.edu:auto and hawaii.edu:menu will automatically be converted to the new group store paths.

Important change: Grouper version 2.2

  • Grouper software will be upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2
  • For those with access to the Grouper web UI, there is a new UI by default.  The legacy UIs are still available as Admin UI and Lite UI links.

Avoid permission objects until after the upgrade:

  • For those of you who plan to explore Grouper beyond the usual group and member capabilities, please hold off from creating permission-related objects between now and the upgrade.
  • This refers to creating objects such as attributes, permission definitions, permission resources, roles, and actions.

The following metadata will not be transferred:

  • Audit logs about who did what and when, including but not limited to:
    • Date and time that a group or folder was created or modified
    • Who created a folder (original creator of group will be preserved)
  • No labels
