IdP Production Environment Updated 2022-10-16

2022-10-16: The Shibboleth Identity Provider (IdP) production environment (idp.hawaii.edu) has been upgraded from version 3.2 to 4.2.

  • This is a major upgrade, built from the ground up with essentially new infrastructure.

  • The primary goal for this upgrade was backwards compatibility with the previous 3.2 deployment[*].

[*] Configuration differences

  • Previously we would release the eduPersonPrincipalName attribute by default to members of the InCommon Federation. We are also now releasing the following name element attributes by default as well: givenName, sn, cn, displayName

  • We are also making available updated versions of the eduPersonPrincipalName and uhEmail attributes. We are starting off with all SPs who receive these configured to use the older, legacy versions of these attributes, but will migrate them to the newer versions in coordination with the SPs on an individual basis.

The IP address for idp.hawaii.edu changed as part of the upgrade.

If you encounter an error along the lines of being unable to reach the page or find the idp host, your system may have the old IP address cached.
If this is the case, then clearing or flushing the affected host's DNS cache should resolve this.

We expect to increase the cadence of these updates in the future.
